Bio Gary Vos

“If it’s worth reading, it’s worth writing well.”

A particularly tough assignment…

A particularly tough assignment…

Gary, the son of a Dutch father and an Irish mother, grew up in the Netherlands and was raised bilingually. He has since picked up some other languages as well, notably Ancient Greek and Latin, leading to a PhD in Classics from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) in 2018, via periods at Leiden University (the Netherlands) and the University of Verona (Italy).

He has extensive experience proofreading and copy-editing academic texts commissioned by their authors as well as some world-leading academic presses, such as Brill, Cambridge University Press, and Oxford University Press, and has translated two monographs.

He tutors and lectures at the University of Edinburgh and still finds time (occasionally) to present papers and to publish his own work: examples of his work can be found on his Academia.edu page. In the past, he taught Classics in several high schools in the Netherlands. Gary also has an auxiliary expertise in teaching and counselling gifted students as well as training those who do so. See his LinkedIn page for further details on his academic and professional background.

Gary offers proofreading and copy-editing of, as well as translations from and into, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, and Latin. He has also ghost-written pieces in Dutch and English.

If you require a crossbreed of an academic, copy-editor, lexicographer, and philologist, here he is!
